Sometimes we say, "I just don't feel God
." It doesn't seem like He's close, but He is. Other days we just don't feel
like following His way for us—we feel like doing what we
want to do.
But faith in God and His way for us is not a feeling
, it is a daily decision
—even a moment-by-moment decision. It was that way for all the people we read about in the Bible: David, Moses, Mary, Abraham, and Peter, just to name a few.
This article by Tom Ruter is a great example of FAITH not being a “feeling,
” but a DECISION.
Like physically working out, or learning a new athletic skill, we have to work out our “Faith Decision Muscle” so it becomes part of our decision-making "muscle memory" and this article will help you do that!
On a few occasions, I have mentioned how the test and trials we go through can become your testimony, and as such, I have a God story to share.
My wife and I are in a 10-week course at church called Rooted, and part of our journey is to share something we are working on personally. For the past few years, I have been working on my pride. Pride can manifest itself in many ways, but for me, I have always struggled letting go of a problem and truly giving it over to God. Usually, when I am faced with a huge challenge, something wakes me up around 2:00 a.m., and I stay up the rest of the night with my mind racing to try to produce a solution. On quite a few occasions, I will say, "I give this issue over to you Lord," but I never have restful sleep and usually give up and go into work early.
Over the past few months, my wife and I have been faced with a builder who we felt did a bait-and-switch on us and we seemed to be in a no-win, very costly situation. When we felt like we had hit a wall, I woke up at 2:00 a.m. and tried to figure out a solution.
Within a few minutes, I had an actual image of me leaving a package at the feet of Jesus, and I said “Lord, I truly give this issue over to you as I am unable to solve it.” The difference this time—I was sound asleep in minutes and woke up refreshed.
The next night, I woke up around 2:00 a.m. with my mind racing again. I had the same vision of leaving a package at the feet of Jesus and fell back asleep almost instantly. The following day, we got a phone call from the builder, releasing us out of our contract and our fully refunding our deposit. I firmly believe this was a test.
I have struggled with this issue of pride and holding onto problems that I want to solve myself most of my life. By sharing my struggle and truly surrendering to Jesus, HE solved the problem for us.
Just as I shared a story here, my prayer for you is that you step out in faith and encourage someone with your story of how God has changed your life or tested you to make you stronger.
As it says in Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT)
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
May you be a light for others,
